It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Wallace Trepp. For many years Robert has been instrumental in the preservation of American Indian culture as President and then CEO of the National Indian Monument and Institute, which is the parent company of the Greater Tulsa Indian Art Festival, the American Indian Theatre Company of Oklahoma, and the American Indian Arts Association. He was part owner, Executive VP of Sales, and a Board Member of PRESCOR, LLC.
Rob was a graduate of the University of Arkansas (Department of Political Science, B.A. 1973, M.A. 1976), Nathan Hale High School (1969) and was a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. He worked at the Nation from 1975-1983. Along with his two brothers, he co-owned the Perryman Ranch in Jenks, OK, which was the Creek allotment of his great-grandfather, Mose Perryman. Rob is survived by his brothers, numerous family members, friends and co-workers, and his beloved dog Freyer.
Rob (Escaswvlke, Loca’pokv) was a consultant to 1975 Muscogee (Creek) Nation Election Board (first election of Principal Chief and Second Chief since 1903), Director of Government Policy and Research, clerk for Muscogee National Council, member of 1979 Constitution Commission, member of first Gaming Operations Authority board, and Chief of Staff and Acting Director of Community Services for Principal Chief Bill S. Fife.
Robert\’s successful tribal projects included MCN Citizenship Code, Title I of Judicial Code, research that led to Muscogee Nation v. Hodel (first re-recognition of any Five Tribes courts), seven years lobbying to open Commodity Distribution to Oklahoma tribes, Gaming Code (first in Oklahoma), and multi-million dollar Housing Rehabilitation grant. Trepp testified to the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs on complex issues regarding the protection of native sites in the southeast.
