FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
November 1, 2017
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma division of the American Heart Association will hold its annual Go Red For Native Women event on Fri., Nov. 17, 2017 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Norman Hotel and Conference Center (2501 Conference Dr., Norman, OK 73069). The one-day event is free to attend and will provide health screenings and educational sessions beginning at 7:30 a.m. A lite breakfast and lunch will also be provided for all in attendance.
This event is held in conjunction with the American Heart Association’s national Go Red For Women movement, which raises awareness among women that their No. 1 health threat is heart disease. Native Americans die from heart disease at younger ages than other racial and ethnic groups in the United States and additionally, Native women have high rates of diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure, which are all factors that increase heart disease risk.
Leading authorities from across the state will discuss nutrition and healthy lifestyles for Natives. Breakout sessions will discuss hypertension, nutrition, as well as other topics.
Registration is currently open for the Go Red For Native Women Health Summit but space is limited. For more information, or to register, visit okcgorednativewomen.heart.org.
Go Red For Native Women is locally sponsored by The Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
