College of the Muscogee Nation Observance of African American History Month: Presentation by Ron Graham

The Freedmen Saga in the Dawes Commission

Join the Muscogee Creek Indian Freedmen Band and genealogist Ron Graham, President, as they present the history and family research of Freedmen in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation within the Dawes Commission. Mr. Graham will utilize the 1900 & 1910 U.S. census, Dawes census cards, land records, 1866 treaty, history books and other vital documents. He will also discuss a how-to lesson on tribal enrollment.

RONALD GRAHAM SR. was born and raised in Okmulgee, OK. He spent a few years of his
elementary life in Muskogee, OK. He graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1982, and attended
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, OK, and Langston University. His father Theodore BLUE Graham was an original allottee, roll number NewBorn Freedmen 671.

Mr. Graham was a litigant in effort to regain his tribal citizenship in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation:
Ron Graham vs. Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma Citizenship Board (CV-2003-53), and also
in the Supreme Court of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation: Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma
Citizenship Board vs. Ron Graham (SC 2006-03).

Mr. Graham currently serves as President of the Muscogee Creek Indian Freedmen Band, and
formerly the President of the NAACP, Okmulgee, OK branch, and former Vice President of the
Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes Association. He has been involved with
genealogy and the history of the Freedmen (Black Indians) for 30 years.

The presentation will be on Tuesday, February 11, at the College of the Muscogee Nation, 1200 Hwy Loop 56, in Okmulgee, OK at 3:00pm, in room 103. We welcome anyone to attend.
