Muscogee recording artist made a strong showing in the 13th Annual Native American Music Award nominations. According to the nominee listing at the NAMMY website, six different acts that include tribal members of the Muscogee Nation were nominated for awards spanning eight different categories. Nationally acclaimed Muscogee artist Joy Harjo has been nominated for top honors in the \”Artist of the Year\” category and \”Best World Music Recording\” for her work entitled Red Dreams, A Trail Beyond Tears. Mike Hammar and The Nails and Marcus Briggs-Cloud & Anna Rangel-Clough, were both nominated for \”Debut Duo Or Group Of The Year.\” Marcus Briggs-Cloud & Anna Rangel-Clough were also nominated for \”Best Historical Recording\” for their CD Pum Vculvke Vrrakuecetv. Mike Hammar and The Nails and Graywolf Blues Band have also both been nominated for top blues honors in the \”Best Blues Recording\” category. And The Blessed Blend of \”Taino, Creek, and Cherokee\” descent were nominated for three awards for their album Tribal Thunder including \”Best Latin American Recording, Best Gospel Recording, and Best Rock Recording.\”
The 13th Annual Native American Music Awards are scheduled to take place on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Seneca Niagara Hotel and Casino in Niagara Falls, NY. Voting for your favorite artists is allowed via Internet. To be eligible for a NAMMY nomination in 2011, artists had to release their CD between January 1, 2011, and April 1, 2011. The first official Native American music initiative of this magnitude, the Native American Music Awards was founded and incorporated in 1998.
